Precision Ceramics is a company
dedicated to the engineering of technical ceramics. From procurement
and supply through to technical design and specialist machining,
we offer a complete service.
Materials that can be laser machined include:
Alumina
Various grades up to a maximum thickness of 3mm
Aluminium Nitride
1mm thick or less
Quartz
On application
Sapphire
On application
Zirconia
1mm and 2 mm thicknesses
With the exception of quartz and sapphire, we offer all the
materials listed above from stock with typical delivery times of
around two weeks for a finished component depending on the
complexity of the item being manufactured.
Laser processing materials utilises a Nd-Yag or CO2 laser
to essentially burn through the material. The power that is applied
varies depending on the thickness of material being processed.
There are two general laser cutting processes - scribed and
profiled
The scribed laser process involves the cutting of a series of
laser holes in the material. Once done, the item is then snapped out
of the substrate. This process is normally applied to more simple
geometric components.
The profiled laser process continuously runs the laser
through the material. This is more accurate but takes significantly
longer.
In both new applications and in areas where
technical ceramics are already being used, Precision Ceramics has
the necessary expertise and in-depth knowledge to quickly find the
best way forward for any potential application from
prototypes through to full-scale production of components with
typical tolerances ranging from +/- 0.02mm on thickness.
